It spends its first year as a low growing rosette of leaves, collecting energy and storing it in its roots. Then, in the second year it produces a flower stalk (you would receive a plant that is in or has gone through its first year). The flowers are a little odd in that they bloom at dusk and close again at sunrise. They are pollinated by moths and other night flying insects.
