Blue Cardinal Flower is a native wildflower that can be found from the east coast to the Midwest and north to Canada. Beautiful bracts of blue-violet flowers add contrasting color to the fall landscape. The flowers are loved by bumblebees which are their primary pollinator. They grow well in moist sites with partial shade. I seem to always see them growing at the edges for forest trails or in small clearing. They would grow well with other shade loving natives like wood ferns, and woodland strawberries.
